Welcome to Copewood Middle

Copewood Middle School is Camden Prep’s second renaissance school located in the Whitman Park neighborhood of Camden. We currently serve students in grades 5 to 8. Our 85,000-square-foot campus includes Copewood Elementary School and serves 800 students in grades K to 8.

Excellence in Learning

We provide all students with a rigorous curriculum that prepares them for college and beyond. We have a longer school day and school year to allow for more learning time, and provide after-school tutoring to ensure that all of our students meet our high academic expectations.

To get our students through the long climb to college, Camden Prep instills in our students the personal qualities they will need to succeed. Our students follow, and families are expected to support, the school's Code of Conduct. Students wear uniforms and are expected to uphold the school's values.

A Typical School Day

While high school graduation and college can seem far off for kindergartners, the preparation that leads to a life of great opportunity begins now. Camden Prep is committed to building the strong and solid academic and character foundation in our scholars that lead them to be masters of their own destinies. We lead our schools, teachers and community in a way that maximizes learning and joy.

Emphasis on College

Camden Prep begins educating students about the importance of college from day one and continues doing so through college readiness activities found in middle and high school. The goal is for freshman year of college to become a natural extension of graduating from high school.

Longer School Day and Year

To ensure that every student masters each and every standard, we provide students with a longer school day and longer year. We also provide homework help and after-school tutoring, Saturday School for students who need extra support, and double periods of English and Math daily.

Structure and Order

Camden Prep provides its students with a calm, safe, and orderly environment to maximize learning time. All students wear uniforms, and receive constant feedback for continuous academic and self-development.

Targeted Curriculum and Assessment

Our data-driven instruction ensures students master a core set of basic academic skills before mastering higher-level material. We also use internally developed assessments to build a culture of continuous reflection and improvement.

Partnering with Families

Partnering with families is vital to ensuring the success of our students and schools. We recognize that we cannot fulfill our mission of preparing students to enter, succeed in, and graduate from college without the support of our families. Family events are held at each campus at least once every two months. Flyers and messages inviting families to upcoming meetings and events are sent home with students.

In addition to campus events, Camden Prep is committed to maintaining frequent communication with our families by offering the following: back-to-school nights, family community circles, game nights, campus newsletters and postcards, family conferences, quarterly progress reports, end-of-quarter report cards, and more.
